Back to Work

Well the fireworks display the other night was great. We had the best seats and the show was great. The philharmonic played for two hours then ended with the Stars and Stripes song along with the start of the fireworks display. It was really nice. Enough of that and back to work. It is going well today and not too hectic. it is really hot out today so I am planning on picking up a pizza and heading over to my sister's after work for a swim. As long as the weather agrees.

July 4th

Happy 4th of July. I am planning on seeing the fireworks this evening along with a cookout at my sister's place. The fireworks display around here is an annual event with music playing and all. It gets really crowded, so we must arrive early for decent seats. The whole gang is going and the weather is forcasted to be dry. I will let you know how they were. Happy 4th of July USA.

Beach

Well here I am at the beach. It rained briefly yesterday, but otherwise it has been perfect. i could not have asked for a better week to go to the beach. I was on the boardwalk yesterday and bought a few souvenirs for the family. My parents always request fudge from this one store so I was sure to get it. Myself, I love the taffy. Tonight I am planning to go out to dinner at this seafood place.

Vacation soon

Well next week is my vacation. The plan is to go to the shore. I love the beach as it is so relaxing. I friend of my father's owns a condo down there and I can get it at a reduced rate. I am planning to go for a week and have already requested the days off from work. Boy do I need a vacation as the days at work have been long and really hectic. I was checking the future forecast at the beach and it looks perfect. I hope it remains that way.

Estimated taxes

Remember today is June 15th . For those of you that pay estimated taxes they are due. My sister was reminding me as though I do not pay, my mom does and she needs some help getting it out. Her eyes and memory are not what they use to be. Though she does not send in much each quarter, it is important to pay it on time. So do not forget.

Beautiful

The rugs are in and I love them. They make the place look great. It is amazing how it changes the look so much. The problem now is that some of the furniture looks old and worn. I hope to save up some money and plan to go shopping for a new couch and coffee table over the next month or two. I think if I work some overtime that would help too. Anyway for now the rugs are great!

Rugs arriving

Well I took a personal day today because as you may have guessed, the rugs are arriving today. the installer said he would be here in the morning as the job should take about six hours to complete. I was up last night clearing everything out of the basement as they requested there be no furniture around. Otherwise the installation would have been more. I try to cut corners as much as possible. Who doesn't these days though, right?

Long day at work

Today was an unusually long day at work. The morning was extremely busy which made it move along at a nice pace, but after lunch, it seemed to drag. The wouldn't you know, at the end of the day I was handed some work by my supervisor that had to be completed today. Well it turned out that I finally got out of work about two hours later than usual. I couldn't wait to go home and just relax with a cup of coffee. Oh by the way the rugs are being installed next week.

Another day

Well I was able to get out of work a bit early the other day and went rug shopping. I found just what I wanted at the second store I went to. I think these new rugs will really set the place off. I just need to have them measure it and set up a date to install them. I thinkit will be sometime in the next two weeks.

Rugs ruined

Well since we are finally drying out here after about a week of drenching rains We have a dehumidifier going non-stop in the basement. The rugs have a real musty odor to them and I believe they will need to be replaced. I am hoping that our homeowners insurance will cover that. I need to look it over before I phone the insurance agency. I will let you know how I make out. Wish me luck.

Insurance

Well I looked into our insurance and the rugs are covered. The bad part is we have a $500.00 deductible. That stinks, but the rugs are probably going to cost about $2000.00, so it is better than having to pay it all. I need to go carpet shopping tomorrow after work. I hope to get out a little early and head right down to the store. I hope I can find what I want.

Wet Basement

Well as I thought the basement was a mess. I have to be careful not to have any valuables down there as it is sure to be ruined. We really need to have something done as I fear we may eventually have damage that will cost a fortune to repair and now is not the time for an expensive undertaking. Like any time is though. Well I will keep you up to date on the mess.

Basement

I'm working from home today, and the rain is coming down so hard that our basement is flooded. These are the times when it's really hard to concentrate on work and pretend that I'm "in the office," and I'll feel bad if I just let the basement go until I clock out this afternoon. Maybe I'll attend to it for a few minutes, and then just tack that on to my clock time...

Home Security

I've been talking about buying a home and owning a home for so long now, it feels like second nature. But I don't think any home owner feels ready to take on a break-in without a good home security system. In my opinion, a home security system is one of the best investments you can make for your home.

With UControl Link, you can enhance your existing home security system, and it's virtually compatible with any brand you may have. You can go to their website, install it yourself in a quick 20 minutes or so, and completely customize it to your needs. I went to UControl's website to learn more, and I found three video demos that you've got to check out. Seeing them made me realize just how important home security really is, and inspired me to write this post.

Personally, I thought that the first video was most informative, so if you only have time to watch one, make sure you see that. It's called the UControl difference, and it explains exactly what distinguishes UControl from other home security systems. It made me realize that this is really a valuable tool for protecting your home from intruders.

Foreclosure

I just checked in with my neighbor again--you know, the one with the squirrel infestation? He found out that they destroyed his insulation, and he actually has to replace the entire attic. Unfortunately, he isn't doing so well financially, so he's going to have to take out a high interest loan to get the attic taken care of. I think he might have to foreclose in the near future. I hope he doesn't, though, because he's a great neighbor, and neighbors as helpful as he are hard to find.

Bluetooth

When Bluetooth first came out--and for an embarrassingly long time after that--I didn't really understand what it was. I thought it was for business networking or something. These days, I rely on my Bluetooth for wireless phone conversations and much more. I can't believe there was a time when I just held the phone to my head! Thank goodness for Bluetooth.

If you're getting ready to purchase one of the new T-Mobile cell phones, make sure you get one that's Bluetooth enabled. A Bluetooth headset is not very expensive (mine was only $31), and if you want to do even better than that, you can get a FREE Bluetooth headset when you order one of many T-Mobile cell phones through Wirefly. You can get this awesome deal with the Moto RAZR with MyFaves, and even with the highly sought after Motorola PEBL. Check out Wirefly for amazing deals like this every day.

Escrow

The check that I had in escrow from the house I recently purchased was cashed today--5 grand...and it was scary, because I only had a little more than that in my checking account. I had actually forgotten that it wasn't cashed yet. Luckily I do online banking, so I can check periodically. But still, I'm going to miss that 5 grand...

Boston Condo Website

Condos are a great place to live if you're a busy professional or a retired individual who wants the independence of owning without all the responsibility of repairs. In a condo, you have the community of other condo owners, and you all contribute to the well being of the building as a whole. If you're a resident of Boston looking for condos, you may be pulling your hair out after seeing some of the prices...but I might have relief.

A website I found, BostonCondoGroup.com, specializes in Boston Condos. Just a quick check of their website, and you'll see that they offer a comprehensive overview of the city's condos. Seriously, if you're getting ready to purchase, this site has everything you need. From property MLS, to all your contacts, it's already there for you at BostonCondoGroup.com.

Finances

Financially, I think I'm doing pretty well, because I was able to purchase my first home and still have money for food each week--but I didn't realize how much it would cost to update my kitchen a little bit. I thought that I would be able to afford a new countertop (mid-priced) and that I would be able to put up a tiled backsplash and then be done with it, but I just got a quote that it's going to cost me over $1200 to get it done. And it's not like only the kitchen needs work--there are updates in the bathroom that need attention, and the whole place needs to be painted. Now I'm considering financing options, but it's tough, because I've always been used to paying upfront and then not worrying about it again. I feel like if I don't have the cash to pay for something, then I shouldn't be buying it. Of course, that all went out the window when I saw the price of homes these days...

Tech Blogs

I've been interested in learning how to program recently, so I signed up for an HTML class at the local community college. I'm really looking forward to it, because I think it'll help me understand the new tech blogs that are out these days. For some reason, I love reading about technology, but I always feel inadequate when I get to the highly technical prose on some of the tech blogs. Hopefully, this course will help me out.

In the meantime, I'm happy to say that I found on tech blog that has information about programming, computers, interesting web tidbits and and Google's adsense calculator all in one place, and in a language I can understand! If you like reading tech blogs, then you need to add this one to your list. Trust me, you'll learn a lot--the author is impressively knowledgeable about technology--and you'll be glad I tipped you off to it!

Squirrels

OK, everything is all right with my neighbor, although he said that this morning, their was a squirrel in his bathroom. He's got to get it fixed right away, but the problem is, it's hard to find good contractors these days. I told him he's welcome to use my bathroom if he needs it, but the poor guy is going to be miserable until this is taken care of. I couldn't imagine waking up and having a squirrel in my bathroom...

Buy a Condo

It's nice to have your own home, but I don't anyone wants to be there 365 days a year every year. We all need vacations and we all have our favorite places to go. Some like beaches, some like skiing, some like exotic locations. Now, if you've already bought your main house why not consider some Real Estate Investment Opportunities. BuyVacationCondos.com is set up to help you find an awesome condo wherever it is you like to do your vacationing, they have lots and lots of locations. Obviously, not everyone can afford this luxury, but remember if you spend a month there a year, you can rent it out for the other 11 months and recoup some of your expenses.

Yikes

You're not going to believe what just happened here. I was watching my neighbors fix their roof, and one of them just fell through! I think he's fine, but it was really scary to watch. I'm going to head over there now to make sure that everything's ok...

Hey VH1!

Hey There VH1!

Trust me, I've been blogging with payperpost for awhile now, and they're a motivated and well organized company that's only been getting better since their induction.

I heard through the grapevine that you're not interested in working with them, but I think you should reconsider. Of course, RockStartup is awesome, but even more important is their network overall. PayPerPost covers a diverse sampling of adults--high school students to stay-at-home moms to postdoctoral researchers. And with your target audience--the post-MTV generation--it would behoove you to get connected.

To be honest, I've got to tell you VH1, I'm surprised that you didn't jump at the chance to work with PayPerPost. However, maybe you need some more information before you'll take the bait...

Boxes

The business world is going well for me. The new box design I pitched the other day was picked up, and I think it might even win an award for design of the year. It's smooth and contemporary, and we're going to use it mainly with companies that cater to the intellectual, baby boomer population, but we might find other uses for it as well. The best boxes are often the versatile ones.

DIRECTV

With my new house, I think I'm going to invest in satellite HDTV and a new big screen LCD television. I was doing some research yesterday, and I was reading about the two major companies: DirectTV and DISH network, that are basically controlling the entire satellite television world. Anyway, the two companies are very similar, but if you're interested in sports, then DirectTV definitely has the better access. In fact, now is the time to buy, because I was able to find a site with DIRECT TV Deals and Promotions that I plan on using as soon as I set up an account and purchase my new TV. It's called www.directstartv.com, and they take care of finding the best deals possible on DirectTV. Evidently, they have great customer service and can take care of setting up new accounts directly.

So check them out first if you're interested in saving money with DirectTV.

Pandora

I'm really loving Pandora.com. I found them a few weeks ago while I was just searching on Google, and now I listen all the time. If you haven't heard about Pandora, they're the new web 2.0 music-listening station, where you guide them by telling them a few songs or artists that you really like, and then they respond by choosing other music that they think you'll like and then you tell them your opinion. In that way, your stations "learn" over time. You should really check it out if you haven't already. It's one of the few websites that I really frequent.

Preconstruction Homes

I have blogged proficiently about real estate over the past months. Since I recently bought my first house, I had to make sure I was an expert in my regional market, and I needed to be prepared to negotiate to the best of my ability. I think I did a pretty good job, but before I started this journey in real estate, I really didn't know much about buying my first investment property.

One of the first sites I noticed when I was starting my search included lots of information about Preconstruction Investment Homes. If you are looking into reserving a preconstruction home as an investment, I would advise you to check out this site before you go ahead with it. A beautiful house in Florida that you can reserve for only $2,000 out of pocket sounds like a dream, but you need to be educated about preconstruction homes in order to be a smart consumer. Check out this site to learn the pros and cons before you make your final decision.

Living Room Plans

One of the best colors for a living room, in my opinion, is slate blue. I really like earth tones in general, because I think they are very inviting, so slate blue adds a little color without being to vibrant and energetic. I want my living room to be calming, but not boring. Right now, the walls are eggshell, so that's going to have to change. I'm really excited for all the painting I'm going to do!

Data Security

If you're concerned about data security, then you should check out www.securezip.com. With SecureZip, you can ensure that your emails and data file attachments are sent with the utmost security. Kitchen Plans

I just spent 2 hours walking around Home Depot thinking about all the updates I'm going to do in my new house. First of all, I'm going to need new countertops, and I've decided to go with solid surface Corian in white. I'm also going to paint the cabinets white. The kitchen is small, so this way it will appear as large as possible. Plus, the appliances are black and stainless steel, so I need to offset the darkness of the room. I'm going to make the walls a light beige to match the ceramic tile floor, and then make sure the kitchen table is neutral as well. Finally, I'm going to put pictures all over the back wall (behind the kitchen table), and the frames are going to be beige, white, and black, to bring it all together. What do you think of that idea?

Display Table

What's your take on Trade Show Displays? Do they make or break your decision to work with a company? I had a personal experience with "trade show display influence" recently, and I thought I would tell you about it.

A few weeks ago, I was commissioned to put together a display for our box making business. It was our intention to take the display to a nearby trade show for exposure. We recently added some beautiful new box designs, and we wanted to make sure that as many potential customers could see them as possible.

I looked around for trade show display companies, and a friend tipped me off about www.godfreygroup.com's site, Withe the Godfrey Group, I was able to find a great display table that was completely portable and that could really showcase our product. The one was chose was well made and not too "busy" so as to divert the customer's attention. We found that the lighting in the display was perfect, and customers swarmed around me. It was amazing to see what a high quality display did for our business. It just gave us more credibility to promote our product on such a beautiful display, and we will definitely work with Godfrey again.

Even if you are planning a huge display--like for vacuum cleaners or ladders or something large like that--and you need more of a display forum, Godfrey's got something for you. In fact, I particularly liked the forums, and I hope that someday my business will have a need for a larger display so I can use one of these. I was so impressed with their company, and their website has everything you need, so you can browse at your convenience before you decide whether to work with them.

So check out Godfrey today for all your display table needs. I'm confident that they'll fit the bill!

Satellite TV

I've just talked to someone about getting satellite TV at my new house. I had used cable for years, and I had no idea about the pros and cons of cable versus satellite. I'm glad I called to look into it, because I think satellite is going to be the way to go. I set up an installation appointment, so hopefully my house will be adequately placed to receive a satellite signal.

Rehab

I think it's so important to inform people who are addicted to drugs or alcohol about their options. So often I hear people say that they'd love to quit their horrible addiction, but they just don't have the support system to do it. Well, hopefully those who read this post will pass on the information I have about drug rehab to anyone they know with a drug problem.

4rehabilitation.com offers a 24-hour hotline where addicts can speak with trained counselors about their issues and how to best overcome their addictions. They've helped many people already and are experts in dealing with any kind of drug abuse.

Closing!

I'm so excited because I just got back from closing on my first house. It's really been an exciting day. I don't think I've ever signed my name that many times in one sitting, but everything went smoothly, and I now have the keys to my first house. Hooray!

AzizzleAuctions

You need to check out a new business venture that I just came across. It's a site called http://www.AzizzleAuctions.com, which is sort of a combination of Craigslist and Ebay. It's like Craigslist in that you can automatically make it local and it's COMPLETELY FREE and it's like Ebay because of its auction format. But here's the twist, it's all about services, not products.

This is a really cool site that I think is going to skyrocket in popularity. Be one of the first to check it out!

New Ringtone

Hello,

I'm watching the news right now, and there are new responses to the tragedy at VA Tech. Whenever something truly horrifying like this happens, the response is to change the system that failed us, and that is a good thing, although it's so very bittersweet.

This time, a free text message will alert students about danger on their campus (currently in place in Delaware). This will hopefully be more effective than emails, which many people don't check frequently, because the cell phone will likely be with the person at all times.

Mortgage News

When I was first trying to determine whether I could even afford a house, I checked a bunch of mortgage rates to try to calculate what I could afford each month. I must say that www.mortgagelowdown.com's page on interest rates was one of the most comprehensive that I saw, and it really helped me nail down how much I could pay, when real estate agents were trying to convince me that I could buy a lot of house without going neck deep in debt. I'm thankful to www.mortgagelowdown.com for the straight, no nonsense answers I got there, and I encourage you to check out their site if you're getting ready to purchase a home.

Real Estate

I'm closing on my first house tomorrow (assuming all goes well), and in keeping with the spirit of that, I wanted to talk about mortgages today. See my next post for info about a great mortgage company I found, and if you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

If you're currently looking to purchase a home of your own, I feel like an expert in the real estate market now, so just *try* to send me a question I can't answer!!!

American Home Mortgage

Hi All,

As you know, I've been going through the process of getting approved for my first ever mortgage loan. The entire process of buying a house has been a whirlwind of excitement (and frustration at times), and I now feel very educated about home mortgages.

One of the things that helped me when I was first learning about home mortgages was the website www.ahmadvantage.com. There, I was able to learn about adjustable rate mortgages versus fixed rate mortgages, what the best rates were right now, and how I could get a great deal on my mortgage loan.

Check out the website above if you're interested in getting yourself the best mortgage loan out there. With American Home Mortgage, you're in good hands, and you can be sure that they have your best interests in mind.

Good night.

Hello,

For my last post of the evening, I just want to say that my heart goes out to all those wounded at VA Tech yesterday as well as to the families of those who were killed. It's so horribly upsetting that some people are so sick as to take a gun to innocent students, and it's so frustrating that the killer was able to just turn the gun on himself and end it all. Unfortunately, there is little justice sometimes, and we just need to find comfort with family members and friends.

WinSCP

Hello There,

This evening, I want to warn all of you computer-owners about the possibility of information theft. When I sold my old laptop, I was very worried about my privacy being impinged upon by someone who could break into my computer and find out my passwords or other sensitive information. You see, I wanted to sell my computer because I could no longer get it to work, but I was afraid that if I sold it to someone who really wanted to get my personal information, s/he could fix it and learn whatever was in there. I ended up not selling it--better safe than sorry.

It's all too true that information can be stolen from your computer. If you are interested in getting the best cyber security you can--for instance, for
Secure file transfers--then check out the free software from WinSCP. With this company, you can secure your information during any transfer between a local and a remote computer. You'll surely appreciate the peace of mind it will bring.

Baseball

Hello Again,

I just went to a baseball game, and we observed the victims of the VA Tech shooting with a moment of silence. I saw the Mets play the Phillies, and it turns out that one of the Mets, David Wright, has a younger brother who is a freshman at VA Tech. Fortunately, he was not one of the victims, but it still must have been truly horrifying.

Life Insurance Blog

Hello There,

I'd like to tell you all about a life insurance blog that I came across this evening. At www.lifeinsurancelowdown.com, you'll find nothing but the
whole life insurance story--everything you need to know to choose the best life insurance plan for your needs.

I would especially like to tell you about this blog's feature articles, which I found to be particularly helpful and informative. The blog even had true stories about clients, for instance, one was about a client with AIDS and the trials she encountered with her life insurance.

If you are in the market for life insurance, then you need to check out this blog.

VA Tech

Hello All,

I spent most of yesterday watching footage about the VA Tech shooting. I just cannot believe that someone would be so demented as to do that. Moreover, I don't understand how the security wasn't strong enough to deal with the massacre before it reached such proportions. With the security breach that VA Tech suffered earlier in the school year, you would think that they would be on guard.

Drug Rehab

Hello There,

If you are currently addicted to drugs, then you need to read this post.

There are lots of different drug rehabilitation programs out today, but only a few of them are really reputable. I was looking at different programs online and was able to find a high quality rehab referral site called RehabilitationHQ. Their website lists a hotline on the top of the page that you can use in case of emergency, and anyone can quickly become connected with caring, professional counselors that are trained to deal with any type of addiction.

You can call them for information about drug recovery, drug abuse, rehab treatment, alcoholism, and much more, and you will certainly be well served. Head over to their site today if you have a problem with addiction. I implore you to kick the habit today, while you still have your life in your hands. Alternatively, if you have a family member or friend who is addicted to drugs, make sure to tell them about RehabilitationHQ today. It might be exactly what they need to get in touch with a treatment program that can save their life. RehabilitationHQ has helped many addicts in the past, and you can be sure that they work in the interest of their clients.

Real Estate

I cannot believe how difficult the real estate market can be when you're actually going through the process of purchasing a home. At first, it seemed like everything was fine and the process was going smoothly, but now that the closing date is fast approaching, I'm having to deal with a difficult real estate agent and sellers who are not owning up to their end of the contract. I would assume that everyone involved would want to get this over with and move on, but it seems like the sellers are stalling.

Hello There,

Furnishing your place

Hello There,

As a consumer, I am particularly excited about purchases where I feel that I really got a good deal. Now that I am getting ready to furnish an entire house from scratch, I've had lots of opportunities to find great deals.

One of the best places I've found for furniture was Craigs list, and I have not yet had a bad experience. In general, I think people are pretty reputable on the site, and as long as you're a careful consumer, you can find some great deals.

I also recently checked out a consignment shop and found a gorgeous bedroom set. It turns out that some consignment shops sell new furniture for cheap, so I would definitely recommend checking those out as well.

Maternity Cards

As I've mentioned in a recent post, it's upsetting to me how difficult it is to find good pregnant health insurance in the United States. And I simply don't understand why it's so hard to come by maternity health insurance. There you can find resources to help you finance your pregnancy and beyond. It shouldn't be so financially stressful to have a baby, and with this website, you will get connected with the best maternity care plans out there. Choose one that best fits your needs with MaternityCard.com.

Loans

I was recently talking with some friends of mine about finances, and it's amazing the negative impact that student loans can have on someone's financial outlook. It's upsetting, because these days, you need an advanced degree to do well in the world, but they are so expensive. And once you get one, you can easily spend years working just to pay off your loans, before you really make any money for yourself!

Pregnancy

I just found good information about pregnancy rates for women after tubal reversal surgery. This research was just made and represents information from 2001 to 2007. Here is a link to the Pregnancy study 2001-2007. Chapel Hill Center is a leading center in tubal reversal study. With all the arguing and controversy over abortion and teen pregnancy, I feel so bad for the women who WANT to get pregnant but can't. I'm so happy that there are people out there working to fix this problem!

Making Money Online

Hi Friends,

So, my internet freelance writing is really going quite well. I found a few sites, and although the work is pretty intensive, there's no scam. I was paid readily and fully, and the company really didn't nitpick much. If you're a proficient typer and generally knowledgeable about the internet, you can really make money!

SHRIMP

What a fun sponsored post for Shrimp Recipes. They want me to spell out what shrimp stands for to me...
S is for the sauce that I like to dunk you in
H is for the hunger I feel before I eat you
R is for the raving that my party guests do about you
I if for the ice that keeps you cold
M is for a million, which is how many of you I have eaten in my life
P is for the pot that I boil you in

Yikes

I recently heard from our realtor that the disclosures on the townhome I'm interested in have been faxed to her (but I don't know if they look good or not), and moreover, it also appears that the listing agent presented both offers (mine and someone else's) to the seller this afternoon. But neither of us know what the decision was...is this a common thing? I really don't like to be on pins and needles for such an important financial decision!

Blog Promotion

I think the best way to promote a blog is by finding other blogs that are similar to yours, add a link to them, and kindly ask them if they would add a link to you. Most of the time they are happy to oblige. So you get a link and you may get a new regular visitor in that blogger. That's a lot of work though. If you don't have that much time their are people that will do it for you. For example, ManhattanService provides an SEO service that does just that!

Once you get the ball rolling and your life on track, things have a way of falling into place. I hope I can be an inspiration out there to anyone who was like me from just a short year ago!

Gainesville

Man, I wish I lived in Gainesville. Then I could make use of the web site Gainesville for Sale. Check this out, they have FREE listings for everything that the local paper usually rips you off for. For example, real estate (a favorite of mine), automobiles (aka cars), and all other types of merchandise. You name it they got it.

THis has been a sponsored post:

Gainesville4sale.com offers free classified ads for private sellers in the Gainesville and University of Florida area. In contrast with unmoderated sites like Craigslist, Gainesville4sale.com employs local editors to maintain quality control for its listings.

Gainesville4sale.com is part of USA4SALE Networks, Inc., which launched its first site in 1998. The company now has sites serving all of central Florida, including Ocala4sale.com, Orlando4sale.com, Jax4sale.com and Tampa4sale.com. The oldest and largest of the sites, Ocala4sale.com, logged 380,000 visitors in January and boasts a local inventory of more than 10,000 classifieds.

One seller, Matthew Warden, recently described his experience: "Thank you Gainesville4sale! My little dachshund was sold after the first e-mail I received. You guys rock!"

Another credit card bill paid on time

Yep, read the subject. The whole thing paid off so there'll be no interest this time around again. If I could keep this going all year, I will save $300 that I lost in interest from credit cards in 2006. Wow, that's like getting an instant raise! Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Health Care?

Hello There,

One of the most important things about the company I work for are their maternity and health care benefits. Sometimes I get really depressed with America's way of dealing with these two important topics. I feel like we are really falling behind other developed countries as far as paid maternity leave and universal health care are concerned, and it makes me really sad. Does anyone have any ideas as to the root cause for these inadequacies? I just don't know.

Investment Strategies

Hello There,

Personally, I worry about high risk investments, because I am generally a financially cautious person. However, I am interested in getting more involved in trading, and it's hard to start off when so many people are so much more knowledgeable about it.

If you feel like you're in the same boat, or if you just want some tips about investments, then you came to the right post. With global futures and Forex, you can increase the viability of your investment profile. I personally am going to start with Forex and Futures in my own stock profile, and I believe they are going to provide the foundation for my investments down the road.

If you want do to the same thing, check out Global Futures Exchange & Trading Co., Inc. They will do everything they can to help you get started, and you only need $250.

Best of luck with your investments.

Please note the following: There is risk of loss trading Futures, options and forex.

Yikes

Well now I'm getting a little nervous about this whole contract thing, because all the real estate agents tell you that "time is of the essence" when you're going to contract on a home, and yet it doesn't seem as stringent as I once thought it was.

If these people are going to say that time is of the essence, then they really should stick to their guns. Particularly, when I put in an addendum that the sellers have three days to ratify, I want it done within three days, not five!

Do any of you have any similar stories? With the price of a house these days, I just want to make sure I'm doing all the right things.

Repairs

Hello There,

Well, I finally found out that the sellers have accepted my addendum, and that means that they're going to either repair or credit each of the problems with the home that I pointed out. I'm learning so much during this real estate purchase. My next question is how I can really verify that they repaired each thing well--for instance, what if they put in poor quality carpeting?

Fake Window

I thought of this awesome idea that I'm going to do for one of my walls in my new home. I'm actually getting this huge poster (3 feet by 4 feet), and I'm going to cut it up into 9 pieces, and put each piece in it's own frame. Then I'm going to line the frames up, and put curtains on either side. The frames are really plain, so it's going to look like an intact window, and I think it'll be really impressive.

What do you think?

I am really hopeful that since the sellers are taking so long to respond to my addendum, that they're actually considering it. I was afraid that I would give them a list of things to fix post-inspection, and they would just deny everything. Now I'm thinking that they're a little smarter than that, and I know that they just want to get the house sold.

It's YOUR Market!

Hello There,

I absolutely loved my time in the UK, and I will definitely be returning there soon. Till then, I wanted to let all my UK readers know about the classifieds website that I recently found. It's called Itsmymarket.com, and it was launched as a local classified ad provider in the UK. You can head on over there for community websites, local news and weather information, "what's on" guides, blogs to check out, and even free dating sites. There really is everything you could possibly need.

They have an absolutely awesome "core offering" of classified ads that you need to check out first. It will give you a taste of the entire site, and there's tons of cool information on there.

So make sure you check it out--I think you'll really like it.

Fixing Up

I recently read that not only is it best to get a home in the better area (even if it's not an ideal home), but it's also not worthwhile to improve a home to a degree that is better than the homes around it. I guess those two points go hand in hand. However, it's upsetting to buy a home and not be able to fix it up to the point that I feel comfortable and content in it.
Any suggestions?

List of Demands

Tonight I put together my list of demands for home repairs and credits. The inspection report listed a lot of little things, and I'm going to note almost every one. The hard thing is that I would rather put a total amount that I need credited, but I really don't know the true total. I feel like if I demand repairs, they will be done shoddily.

Home Inspection

Hello There,

I'm currently reviewing the inspection report. It looks like although there are no huge ticket items in need of repair, the place was definitely not well-maintained. Unfortunately, that means there might be hidden maintenance problems that I will not find until I've lived there awhile. That's why I encourage everyone to get a professional home inspection as well as a full year warranty before they commit to a home purchase.

Remote Desktop

Hello There,

One of the coolest things I recently learned a computer is capable of is the "remote desktop" feature. With this feature enabled on your computer, you can actually access, for instance, your work computer from home, or your home computer from work. It's really fantastic, and I'm sure it saves a lot of people a LOT of time in commutes, if they get home and realize that there's something they forgot to do on their work computer. Now they can just do it from home!

And I'm so excited to tell you about Techinline Remote Desktop. In my opinion, it's the best remote desktop service out there, and all you need to do is head over to techinline.com to see for yourself. The truly exciting thing about this service is it's ease and usability. Truly, you can access your desktop in seconds, with nothing more than an internet connection. Check it out--I bet you'll love it!

Running

Hello There,

Well, I was running this morning, and I completely wiped out. I skidded on the concrete and tore up my hands and my knee very badly. Business News

I'm so pleased to say that my box company recently got a new contract, so we'll be growing quite a bit larger, and I think things are really looking up for the entire company. We were struggling for a few months there, and I was honestly worried about losing my job, but now I think we can finally rest easy. The greatest thing is that our new boss is really technologically-sophisticated, so I think he's going to take our business to the next millennium with a great website that can be seen by potential customers around the world.

Accepting the offer???

Well, I just heard from the realtor again, and it turns out that they are asking for actual information to prove that I have the liquid assets in my bank account. I didn't know this was an issue sometimes, but apparently it is. So, I just called my bank and had them fax over a mini-statement to my realtor (with the bank account number removed, of course). Hopefully, this will be sufficient for the seller to accept my offer. I am super-excited!!

Financing

Hello There,

World Racing Forum

Hello There,

I am pleased to tell you about a Motorsport Forum that I recently came across online.

Since I'm moving to a new area, I was worried that my destination would be lacking in people interested in auto racing like me. I was sad that I would lose the base of people that I hang out with each week to watch motorsports and talk about the latest news in auto racing. In order to fill that void, I searched online for a community that would replace my auto racing friends. I'm pleased to say that I found it at Motorsport Forums. These forums are already immense, and they are the fastest growing motorsport community, so you know that they're only going to get bigger and bigger. You can meet people from all over the place with similar interests, and an authentic love of motorsports. If nothing else, you can be guaranteed to find a fun motorsport discussion experience in these forums, and that's a promise. I was amazed at the diversity of people that love motorsports, and it was so fun to chat with them about their specific auto racing interests, and how they became interested. Many of these people have loved auto racing since they were young children, and they are very knowledgeable about the sport.

So get yourself over to the Motorsport forum--as a member you'll receive awesome benefits, including the chance to (1) Post your own topics for discussion and participate in discussions and polls posted by others; (2) Upload and download videos and pictures that you've taken or that other users have posted to share; (3) Play in the WRF Prediction, Fantasy and BATracer Leagues (my favorite of the member benefits); (4) Buy and sell motorsport merchandise--and you're guaranteed to find exactly what your looking for!; (5) create your own avatar from an extensive gallery to use in the forums; and last but not least, (6) have access to a unique, ad-free (I know that's a big deal for many of you) discussion environment.

And there are lots of other benefits--but you need to check it out for yourself to find out about those!

If, like many people, you are passionate about auto racing, then the World Racing Forum is the absolute best place you can go to get in tune with an entire community that shares your interest. Personally, I had no idea that so many people were interested in auto racing, and it was so refreshing to meet a group of people just like me. I guarantee you'll be glad you met this community of genuinely nice, auto-racing-loving people!

Home Values

Hello All,

Now that I am nearing ever closer to being a first time home owner, I wanted to write a little about house values in other areas. In the area I'm looking, you cannot get a nice townhouse for under 200K. In contrast, my parents live in an area where you can get a relatively nice single family home for half of that. It's difficult to process how home values could be so different in different regions, but it's absolutely a fact.

To get a really great idea of the value of homes in your area, or in the area to which you are relocating, you need to check out www.valuesinfo.com. It's really a great site, and the information that they've got for you is really the best quality and most in depth information that you're going to find on the internet. I was personally looking for Maryland house values and Maryland real estate values, but this site has information about property values in every state. You'll be sure to find what you need.

Short Mortgage

Hello There,

Well, I was just interested in finding out what others think about my real estate investment idea. Since I know that in 10 or so years, I'll want to move out, I don't want to pay a whole bunch of money toward interest in a 30 year mortgage. So I want to pay this one off AS FAST AS POSSIBLE, so that I can move on with a big stack of cash in my pocket.

Has this method worked for any of you?

Found a place

Well, I saw five more homes today, and I think I've finally chosen one--assuming it doesn't go under contract with someone else in the next 24 hours...

It's not the type of house that takes your breath away, but at least I know that I can afford it. And ultimately, I can trade up and have a nice profit, assuming everything goes as planned.

Under Contract...

Hello There,

Unfortunately, one of the six places I was interested in went under contract yesterday. I wouldn't have known, except I printed out the listings for each one today (on my new laser printer!) and I noticed that one of them said CT/NO KO (contract, no kick out clause) on it! Oh well, that was 4th out of 6 in terms of niceness, at least my top three are still active listings. I just hope none of the other properties follow suit.

For Sale by Owner

Hello There Fellow Home Sellers and Shoppers,

What do you think about buying a house that is listed as for sale by owner? I personally think I feel more comfortable working with a realtor, but recently, I've gotten frustrated with all the secrecy and politics surrounding the purchase of a house, and I'm appalled with the information that realtors will hold back if they are not directly making money off of you. Plus, my friend Suice had a great experience going through the "for sale by owner" process from the seller standpoint, when she sold her first house. Although it was a bit more work, she was definitely pleased with the thousands of dollars she saved, and she said she would do it all again in a heartbeat.

While trying to learn more about the for sale by owner process, I found a site called obares.com, where you can get lots of information about real estate services. This site specializes in for sale by owner information, and I found it to be a great resource, particularly if you are first time home buyer, like me, and you don't want to be taken advantage of by greedy sellers.

The site is beautifully laid out in "tab format" and you can find plenty of tips for any point in the home transaction process--buying, selling, legal forms, etc. In particular, I found their calculator section particularly helpful, especially the feature that connects you to a Free Credit Report Online. As we all know, the purchase of a house is HUGE, and before you even think of that, you need to secure a home loan. And of course, loaners want to see that you have a clean credit report.

So, you can check out this site to make sure your credit report is golden, and then get ready to purchase your home!
