Workload

Well, my boss has just piled a huge box order on my desk, so I’m really not having time to think about my townhouse purchase—but it’s always weighing on my mind because I’m just so worried that I’m going to purchase one and end up hating it. I wish I had an endless supply of money for this purchase, so I could just pick my favorite based on everything else. Money is such a deciding factor right now, and I can’t get a fixer upper, because I don’t have the cash to pay for all the repairs that would be necessary.

Windows Vista

Holy moly, I just saw some information about this new Vista operating system, so I’ll take a minute from my townhouse rants to discuss it—has anyone gotten this OS, or are you planning to? I am always worried about Microsoft’s first versions of things because they tend to put out products before all the bugs are worked out. Has anyone else found this to be true?

Best realtor to choose

My realtor has assured me that they would never put me in a unit that is unsafe for me. As a single female, I need to take precautions that males or even couples don’t have to worry about, and it’s not like I have big guard dogs to protect me—they’re just yappy terriers.

Townhouse search continued

Does anyone have any advice for me about doing this townhouse search? I was unable to find any really good message boards about the neighborhood I am thinking of moving to, and that’s what I really need to find out. It’s difficult for me to be able to move to a place where I don’t really know the demographics of the neighborhood—like might there be gangs there or something? That worries me.

Realtors

So I am in talks with realtors, and they all seem to have an idea of which places are the up and coming ones, but I’m still worried about their predictions, because what if they’re wrong? Sure I could get a relatively nice place for less money in one “up and coming” place than a comparable unit in an already established place, but what if the developer decides to hightail it out of there before they really finish the community? I might be living next to a pile of dirt—and I’d never be able to resell that in 10 years…

Mortgage Calculator

I finally found this great website where I can input my income and see what kind of mortgage I can afford. I was thrilled to find that I can technically afford a house of about 250K. I think I can find a good one for about 230K and then use the remainder of my money to furnish it. But I’m thrilled with these prospects. At least this way, I can narrow down my home search by price.

Puppies in mind

Finally! I was able to find a townhouse to rent for a few months that is exactly what I’m looking for. I was really worried up until now because I just wanted a nice quiet place for my dogs and me to live until we’re ready to move into our new townhouse, and I finally met with a woman who will be away from her townhouse for about three months and is willing to sublet it to me for that time. I am so thrilled because I will not only be able to see what a townhouse is like—so I can make sure I want to buy one—but I’ll also be able to have a nice residence for my dogs while we’re in housing limbo. Even more than me, they’re creatures of habit, and I was worried about finding a place that would work well with them.

Craig's List

I was worried about where I would stay in the interim between the lease ending on my current apartment and my move in date for my new townhouse (which I haven’t exactly chosen yet, but I’m talking with realtors). I’ve looked on Craig’s list, which I’m SO happy for, but I’ve just not been happy with the places I’ve seen….

Housing

So I’ll be moving in a few months to an area that has a nice housing community, but is still within commuting distance with my company. I hope that I’ll be able to get a raise soon, because my mortgage will be higher than my rent was—but at least this time I am putting money into an investment, so I’ll be happy to pay my mortgage each month.

Technology

As for my posts about technology, I am a computer lover, especially PCs, so I’ll probably talk about blogging, what I’ve learned using PayPerPost and other things like that. I’m really thrilled that I have learned my way around a computer over the past year, because I now see why others think of it as such an essential tool in the modern world.

Overview

My posts about finance will probably center around my desire to find a new townhouse. I’ve lived in an apartment all the while that I’ve been at the box making company, and I’ve really become fed up with throwing my money to rent each month. It’s been ten years, and I have no investments to show for myself. So my first step is to get a townhouse, and then a few years down the road (7-10) I hope to sell it and get a single family, detached home. Hopefully by then I’ll be married with kids…but I’ll still be blogging.

First real post

Hello all,

I’d like to devote this blog to posts about business, finance, and technology. As far as business goes, I’ll mainly focus on my box making company. I have been at the same company for about 10 years, and we design and make boxes for private companies. This might sound like a menial job, but it actually takes a lot of ingenuity to make a durable box that also looks stylish.
