Back to Work

Well the fireworks display the other night was great. We had the best seats and the show was great. The philharmonic played for two hours then ended with the Stars and Stripes song along with the start of the fireworks display. It was really nice. Enough of that and back to work. It is going well today and not too hectic. it is really hot out today so I am planning on picking up a pizza and heading over to my sister's after work for a swim. As long as the weather agrees.

July 4th

Happy 4th of July. I am planning on seeing the fireworks this evening along with a cookout at my sister's place. The fireworks display around here is an annual event with music playing and all. It gets really crowded, so we must arrive early for decent seats. The whole gang is going and the weather is forcasted to be dry. I will let you know how they were. Happy 4th of July USA.

Beach

Well here I am at the beach. It rained briefly yesterday, but otherwise it has been perfect. i could not have asked for a better week to go to the beach. I was on the boardwalk yesterday and bought a few souvenirs for the family. My parents always request fudge from this one store so I was sure to get it. Myself, I love the taffy. Tonight I am planning to go out to dinner at this seafood place.

Vacation soon

Well next week is my vacation. The plan is to go to the shore. I love the beach as it is so relaxing. I friend of my father's owns a condo down there and I can get it at a reduced rate. I am planning to go for a week and have already requested the days off from work. Boy do I need a vacation as the days at work have been long and really hectic. I was checking the future forecast at the beach and it looks perfect. I hope it remains that way.

Estimated taxes

Remember today is June 15th . For those of you that pay estimated taxes they are due. My sister was reminding me as though I do not pay, my mom does and she needs some help getting it out. Her eyes and memory are not what they use to be. Though she does not send in much each quarter, it is important to pay it on time. So do not forget.

Beautiful

The rugs are in and I love them. They make the place look great. It is amazing how it changes the look so much. The problem now is that some of the furniture looks old and worn. I hope to save up some money and plan to go shopping for a new couch and coffee table over the next month or two. I think if I work some overtime that would help too. Anyway for now the rugs are great!

Rugs arriving

Well I took a personal day today because as you may have guessed, the rugs are arriving today. the installer said he would be here in the morning as the job should take about six hours to complete. I was up last night clearing everything out of the basement as they requested there be no furniture around. Otherwise the installation would have been more. I try to cut corners as much as possible. Who doesn't these days though, right?

Long day at work

Today was an unusually long day at work. The morning was extremely busy which made it move along at a nice pace, but after lunch, it seemed to drag. The wouldn't you know, at the end of the day I was handed some work by my supervisor that had to be completed today. Well it turned out that I finally got out of work about two hours later than usual. I couldn't wait to go home and just relax with a cup of coffee. Oh by the way the rugs are being installed next week.

Another day

Well I was able to get out of work a bit early the other day and went rug shopping. I found just what I wanted at the second store I went to. I think these new rugs will really set the place off. I just need to have them measure it and set up a date to install them. I thinkit will be sometime in the next two weeks.

Rugs ruined

Well since we are finally drying out here after about a week of drenching rains We have a dehumidifier going non-stop in the basement. The rugs have a real musty odor to them and I believe they will need to be replaced. I am hoping that our homeowners insurance will cover that. I need to look it over before I phone the insurance agency. I will let you know how I make out. Wish me luck.

Insurance

Well I looked into our insurance and the rugs are covered. The bad part is we have a $500.00 deductible. That stinks, but the rugs are probably going to cost about $2000.00, so it is better than having to pay it all. I need to go carpet shopping tomorrow after work. I hope to get out a little early and head right down to the store. I hope I can find what I want.

Wet Basement

Well as I thought the basement was a mess. I have to be careful not to have any valuables down there as it is sure to be ruined. We really need to have something done as I fear we may eventually have damage that will cost a fortune to repair and now is not the time for an expensive undertaking. Like any time is though. Well I will keep you up to date on the mess.

Basement

I'm working from home today, and the rain is coming down so hard that our basement is flooded. These are the times when it's really hard to concentrate on work and pretend that I'm "in the office," and I'll feel bad if I just let the basement go until I clock out this afternoon. Maybe I'll attend to it for a few minutes, and then just tack that on to my clock time...

Home Security

I've been talking about buying a home and owning a home for so long now, it feels like second nature. But I don't think any home owner feels ready to take on a break-in without a good home security system. In my opinion, a home security system is one of the best investments you can make for your home.

With UControl Link, you can enhance your existing home security system, and it's virtually compatible with any brand you may have. You can go to their website, install it yourself in a quick 20 minutes or so, and completely customize it to your needs. I went to UControl's website to learn more, and I found three video demos that you've got to check out. Seeing them made me realize just how important home security really is, and inspired me to write this post.

Personally, I thought that the first video was most informative, so if you only have time to watch one, make sure you see that. It's called the UControl difference, and it explains exactly what distinguishes UControl from other home security systems. It made me realize that this is really a valuable tool for protecting your home from intruders.

Foreclosure

I just checked in with my neighbor again--you know, the one with the squirrel infestation? He found out that they destroyed his insulation, and he actually has to replace the entire attic. Unfortunately, he isn't doing so well financially, so he's going to have to take out a high interest loan to get the attic taken care of. I think he might have to foreclose in the near future. I hope he doesn't, though, because he's a great neighbor, and neighbors as helpful as he are hard to find.

Bluetooth

When Bluetooth first came out--and for an embarrassingly long time after that--I didn't really understand what it was. I thought it was for business networking or something. These days, I rely on my Bluetooth for wireless phone conversations and much more. I can't believe there was a time when I just held the phone to my head! Thank goodness for Bluetooth.

If you're getting ready to purchase one of the new T-Mobile cell phones, make sure you get one that's Bluetooth enabled. A Bluetooth headset is not very expensive (mine was only $31), and if you want to do even better than that, you can get a FREE Bluetooth headset when you order one of many T-Mobile cell phones through Wirefly. You can get this awesome deal with the Moto RAZR with MyFaves, and even with the highly sought after Motorola PEBL. Check out Wirefly for amazing deals like this every day.

Escrow

The check that I had in escrow from the house I recently purchased was cashed today--5 grand...and it was scary, because I only had a little more than that in my checking account. I had actually forgotten that it wasn't cashed yet. Luckily I do online banking, so I can check periodically. But still, I'm going to miss that 5 grand...

Boston Condo Website

Condos are a great place to live if you're a busy professional or a retired individual who wants the independence of owning without all the responsibility of repairs. In a condo, you have the community of other condo owners, and you all contribute to the well being of the building as a whole. If you're a resident of Boston looking for condos, you may be pulling your hair out after seeing some of the prices...but I might have relief.

A website I found, BostonCondoGroup.com, specializes in Boston Condos. Just a quick check of their website, and you'll see that they offer a comprehensive overview of the city's condos. Seriously, if you're getting ready to purchase, this site has everything you need. From property MLS, to all your contacts, it's already there for you at BostonCondoGroup.com.

Finances

Financially, I think I'm doing pretty well, because I was able to purchase my first home and still have money for food each week--but I didn't realize how much it would cost to update my kitchen a little bit. I thought that I would be able to afford a new countertop (mid-priced) and that I would be able to put up a tiled backsplash and then be done with it, but I just got a quote that it's going to cost me over $1200 to get it done. And it's not like only the kitchen needs work--there are updates in the bathroom that need attention, and the whole place needs to be painted. Now I'm considering financing options, but it's tough, because I've always been used to paying upfront and then not worrying about it again. I feel like if I don't have the cash to pay for something, then I shouldn't be buying it. Of course, that all went out the window when I saw the price of homes these days...
